THE YMCA OF GREATER BOSTON PROVIDES:

Since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, the YMCA of Greater Boston, along with our partners,...

Provided free emergency care across 12 sites to nearly 428 children of essential workers from 139 companies for a total of 135,500 hours of safe and nurturing care during the Commonwealth's shutdown through June 29
Launched Early Education, Day Camp and Summer Learning for 1,570 children for a total of 686,449 hours of safe and nurturing care throughout the summer
Employed 446 youth workers completing 137,530 hours of summer employment elevating their self-worth, self-confidence and sense of responsibility

Provided community access to our virtual fitness and educational classes, with 74,176 visits
Continues to feed children, seniors and families with over 4.6 million meals (3.7 million grab and go and prepared meals and 193,093 bags of groceries) delivered across 70 locations. Opened 26 Community Learning Centers and Afterschool Programs providing 417,438 hours of academic support and care to 761 children. Continued to expand Early Education programs during the fall opening of school providing 374,425 hours of learning and care to 371 children.

The Y is working to make sure that everyone has access to healthy food

Example: In 2020, the Y provided 4.6 million meals to families and individuals across Greater Boston. As the pandemic continues, we anticipate a greater need for hunger prevention work.

Educating Our Communities

The Y is ensuring that our kids don’t lose momentum in learning and that adults have opportunities to build new skills 

So many of our children are currently learning remotely. We have yet to determine the overall cost to learning that this pandemic will cause, but our goal is to support children and families through this time to prevent learning loss. To that end, we have opened 26 Community Learning Centers where children are guided through their daily assignments, gain much-needed social interaction and physical activity.

Moving In Our Communities

The Y is committed to making a more equitable, healthy community for all by addressing health disparities and chronic disease.

So many of us have had our daily habits upended in the past year. Whether we exercise at home or take part in safe activities at the Y. Daily movement has a huge impact on our bodies and our minds. The Y is working to provide opportunities so that everyone, everywhere can stay active despite staying apart. In 2020 we had over 71,423 participation views of our virtual workouts. We are continuing to innovate new programs that emphasize healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

The Y provides a way that everyone can help.

In the past year, it’s been hard to know what we as individuals can do to help our neighbors, communities and world. The Y provides a place that can help donors, volunteers, partners and organizations pay it forward and make lasting change in our communities.

Each year the YMCA provides families and individuals, young and old with the opportunity to live happier, healthier lives. We don’t turn anyone away, regardless of their ability to pay.
